Somalia’s president to pay second state visit to Eritrea

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo will visit Asmara on Wednesday, Eritrea’s information minister has announced.

In a tweet, Yemane Meskel said President Farmajo “will arrive in Asmara later today (Wednesday, Sept 5)” for a tripartite meeting with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The Eritrean minister said Mr. Ahmed and his delegation were already in Asmara for a “two-day working visit”. He did not give further details of the agenda of the meeting of the three leaders.

In July, the Somali president made his first state to Eritrea for talks focusing mainly on the stability of the Horn of Africa region.

He signed an agreement with his Eritrean counterpart Afwerki to restore their nations’ relations following years of sour relations.

The two countries also agreed to exchange ambassadors.
